“Human Rights Now!” - the second all-stars charity concert tour organized by the Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights organization Amnesty International, was staged to draw attention to the fortieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration Of Human Rights.

This concert was one of the final stops of the “Human Rights Now!” tour and headliners Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman and Youssou N’Dour had been all over the planet by the time the concert took place in the legendary River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires on the 15th October 1988.

This 2CD Digipak Edition features once-in-a-lifetime performances such as “Born In The U.S.A” by Springsteen, Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer”, “Don’t Stand So Close To Me” by Sting and the evening’s highlight as all performers gathered on stage for a moving rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Chimes Of Freedom” and Bob Marley’s “Get Up, Stand Up”.

Red Rose for Gregory is among the best full-length releases from legendary Reggae crooner; Gregory Isaacs. Recorded for producer Gussie Clarke, the album features Clarke's red-hot studio band with the Mighty Diamonds and J. C. Lodge handling backing vocals. With "Rumours" being the stand-out hit, the rest of the record stands shoulder to shoulder with it in terms of quality. Clarke's signature style -- deep, reverberated bass, fat beats, and sparse musical arrangements -- delighted the dancehalls, and the openness of his sound was perfect for DJs to chatter across. It also was a treat for singers, as it allowed emotions to bleed through, and provided space to drop in backing vocals and further instrumentation as needed. Isaacs took full advantage of the opportunities presented and gifted Clarke with some of his best performances. The passionate declaration of love on "All I Need Is You," the intimacy of the title track, as the singer muses about the identity of a secret admirer, and the lovely, easy-going "Slow Down" are just some of the standouts here. And then there's the hits. "Rumours," of course, but also the tough "Rough Neck" and the stunning "Mind Yu Dis," all appear here in spectacular 12" extended mixes, alongside a promotional 12" version of "Teacher's Plight." This is truly Isaacs at the heights of his dancehall glory. (Bandcamp)

The three original Wailers were an interesting mix of personalities. Bob Marley was the charismatic -- a prophet, mystic and ladies' man all rolled into one. Peter Tosh was the cynical revolutionary. And Bunny Livingston was... what? It was hard to say until the group splintered and the three all went on to varying degrees of solo success. Once Bunny was out of the shadow of Peter and Bob, it became clear that his was, in some ways, the more fully integrated talent and the more grounded vision. Listen to the rich, melodious speaking voice that introduces "Rise and Shine," the lead track on Liberation. Listen to the chesty, resonant voice that then proceeds to deliver the song itself. Bunny may simply be the best singer of the three -- Bob always seemed to be possessed by the song, sometimes shaken across the stage like a rag doll by the need to get the words out of his head. Peter Tosh always seemed slightly contemptuous of the whole singing process and invested minimal effort in it. But Bunny is always in control of both his instrument and his material, and is, in some ways, a more effective messenger because of it. There are so many highlights on this album that they almost don't count as highlights -- "Want to Come Home," with its Nyabinghi drum foundation and its simple, powerful repatriation message; "Liberation," with its effortless melodic hook; "Bald Head Jesus" with its matter-of-fact references to Jesus as a "dreadlocked Nazarene" and its incorporation of "Give Me That Old Time Religion." It just doesn't get much better than this. (AllMusic)
